More than a moment
For years, Marian Allen carried history in the trunk of her car—taking exhibits to schools, churches, and gathering places before building the Laurel-Jones County Black History Museum and Arts into a permanent community home.
That same persistence now moves from Ward 7 toward a citywide vision: leadership that travels, learns, returns, and turns ideas into action for Laurel.

The Allen standard
Her platform begins with a simple truth: the people are not an interruption to government. They are the reason it exists.
Public questions deserve respectful answers, clear information, and responsive representation. Marian proposes published response procedures so every concern reaches the correct department, receives a tracking record, and receives a follow-up instead of being lost after a meeting.
Explore →Residents should understand priorities before the final vote—not after the money is committed. Marian supports public budget workshops, plain-language spending summaries, and an annual calendar showing when residents can review proposals and speak before decisions are final.

Marian Allen believes Laurel should never stop learning. She travels to meet with mayors, council members, public officials, and civic leaders; observes how other cities conduct meetings and deliver services; and brings promising ideas home for thoughtful public discussion.
Her goal is not to copy another city. It is to make Laurel better by widening the circle of knowledge—and never forgetting the people whose voices must guide the final decision.
